Amsterdam Art

Today in Amsterdam I was exposed to so many beautiful pieces of art at the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum.

Being an art minor, I was really looking forward to the museums today. Since adding my minor this past semester, I have really come to appreciate and understand art in a way I never knew I could. I was able to get a lot out of the museums, more than I have in art museums in the past. Today was undoubtedly my favorite day in Amsterdam thus far.

I saw Rembrandt’s Night Watch, Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, and The Scream by Munch, just to name a few. Before this trip, I never dreamed I would have the opportunity to see pieces like this!

On top of it all, I tried my first fresh stroopwafel!  Stroopwafels are a classic dessert in the Netherlands, with hot caramel in between two flat pieces of a soft waffle cone. I bought one today at a small stand outside of the museums. Let’s just say I would do just about anything to get these back in the U.S.

Today was a great day filled with two of my favorite things about traveling- great food and great art! I think I could stay in this city forever! (But don’t worry mom, I won’t.)
