Bring on the sentimental throwbacks and emotional scrolls through Timehop. It has officially been ONE YEAR since I left to study abroad (I’m not crying, you’re crying).
January 4th marks exactly one year since I was heading to the airport with a giant suitcase ready to head out into the world on my own for four months. I’m going to be honest, today is January 15th and it took me way too long to post this. I’ve been avoiding the sad realization that at this time one year ago I was living in a castle and hopping to a new country every weekend.
Earlier this month, I was reading back on my first post I wrote when I arrived in England. I was wide-eyed, exhausted, and excited, with absolutely no idea that the four months I was about to spend abroad would change my life. Does that sound melodramatic? Maybe. But I really think it’s true.
Some days, it’s still hard to look back and reflect on the entire experience. Harlaxton was four blurry months of making friends, traveling to 14 different countries, and having crazy out-of-comfort zone experiences. The whole thing still feels like a dream. What I do know though, is that Harlaxton and my semester abroad changed me as a person and I could not be more grateful.
I love my blog because it has become a summarized diary of my travel experiences. I also loved being able to write, edit pictures, and be creative while I was abroad. Now I have a collection of my travels, where I stayed, visited, ate, and how I felt throughout it all. In 2018, I hope to continue to find uses for my blog to keep my traveling dreams alive. (Insert cheesy line- “just one of the perks of being a dreamer”).
