My New Home is a Castle…
Somebody pinch me because I must be dreaming… Just one week ago I arrived at Harlaxton Manor in Grantham, England. I am fortunate enough to be able to call this incredible castle home for the next four months.
After months of planning, weeks of packing, and a few days of saying my goodbyes, I was ready to go. Finally, I left Kansas City for Chicago, then left Chicago for a 7 hour flight across the Atlantic. We arrived in London early around 9 am Thursday morning, and then made it to the manor early that afternoon. Words cannot describe how my heart felt driving up to the manor. I had slept through most of the three-hour bus ride, as most of our exhausted group did. Then one of the interns woke us up right as we pulled in to Grantham, telling us to look out the windows on the left. As we did we were welcomed with the incredible sight of a castle off in the distance. “That couldn’t be Harlaxton” I thought, “I get to live there?!”.
The feeling of driving up to the front doors and stepping off the bus is the most indescribable things I have ever experienced. It was a dream, and I’m pretty sure I still haven’t woken up.
As exhausted as I was, adrenaline instantly kicked in, and has kept me going for the past week. My days have been full of orientations, exploring, wandering, meeting new people, getting lost, trying new things, and still trying to figure out if this is a dream or not.
I am already looking forward to my upcoming trips and adventures. I’ll keep you updated on whether or not I ever get used to the feeling of waking up in a castle.
