Big news, I’m off again! I am beyond excited that I will be spending the first month of my summer studying Spanish in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Last year, while studying in England, I took a long weekend trip to Barcelona, Spain. While I was there, I fell in love with the city, the people, and the culture. Most of all, I fell in love with the language. During my long weekend in Spain, I used the Spanish I knew to communicate around the city, and the things I remembered from high school surprised me. I realized how amazing and enriching it was to use another language to communicate with and learn from people in a different culture.
After Barcelona and my semester abroad, I returned and immediately added a Spanish minor to my studies. I later had opportunities to use Spanish in an inner-city classroom in Kansas City. This experience was amazing and eye-opening as well, as I learned how amazing it was to use other languages to help young students learn.
Which leads me to Buenos Aires. At the beginning of 2018, I realized I would still need a lot of credits this summer to fulfill my Spanish minor requirements. So, I started looking into programs abroad. I stumbled upon ISA, and found Buenos Aires as a perfect fit.
I leave today and arrive in the city tomorrow. I am excited to be living with a local family in the city and attending classes with other students at the University de Belgrano. I am also looking forward to weekday cultural experiences and weekend excursions with my program, and cannot wait to fall in love with another country and a new city.
¡Hasta luego, Kansas!
